One of my best friends, who usually doesn’t care about Starbucks at all, recently super excitedly said “Oh, I gotta get an eggnog from Starbucks!”.  It was then that I realized NYC is turning to holiday mode. Department sores already  decorated their show windows with Christmas colors despite we still have Thanksgiving/Black Friday combo, and a tree at the Rockefeller center will be wrapped in more than 50,000 Christmas lights, but  more importantly (to me), my favorite cafes are introducing holiday drink!

普段はスタバを気にもしない友人が『Oh, I gotta get an eggnog from Starbucks！』と目をキラキラさせながら言っているのを聞いてハッとしました。　そう、とりあえずサンクスギビングとブラックフライデーが今週はありますが、街中クリスマスモードが加速しているNYC。 有名デパートはクリスマスデコレーションをスタートさせ、ロックフェラーセンターのツリーもライト5０，０００個の飾り付けがが始まっています。　そして何より私の大好きなカフェたちがホリデードリンクを発表し始めています！

When comparing seasonal drinks, it’s easy to see that Starbucks is a big enterprise! In terms of getting ready for the festive season, Starbucks does it right with its fall/winter décor and holiday menu – but what else would you expect from THE global coffee shop. Even someone, like myself, who usually frequents the local café scene will want to check-in to Starbucks to partake in their holiday menu. There are countless delicious, modern, unique cafes in NYC, and I love them, but I feel Starbucks is tough to pass on around this time of year.

ただ、さすがにStarbucksは大手！　もう世界規模の会社ですから当然なのでしょうが、メニューもショップグッズも種類が豊富で盛り上がり方が違うので、ホリデーシーンの一つとして少しご紹介したいと思います。　普段はローカルカフェ好きの人々も、とりあえずスタバのホリデードリンクはチェックしたくなるものです。　今でこそ美味しくて、モダンで、オリジナリティを持ったカフェが溢れかえっているNYCですが、こんな時はアメリカコーヒー文化の先駆者であるStarbucksの偉大さを感じますね。

If I could describe the atmosphere in the café, it would “It’s Holiday! It’s Christmas!”. Drink, food, shop goods…everything is changed to the holiday version. I get excited from only watching those holiday specials.

もう店内に入った瞬間から、『ホリデーだよ！クリスマスだよ！』というこのビジュアル。　ドリンクもフードもショップグッズも…全てホリデー仕様。なんだか見ているだけでワクワクします。

I guess the difference compared to Japan is, in the US the full holiday menu is released together at the same time beginning in November. However, in Japan it’s kind of pleasure to see each holiday special drink being released one by one for a short time only – America won’t wait. From Peppermint Mocha to Eggnog to Chestnut Praline Latte, you can try them all you want from now. Personally, I must drink the Gingerbread Latte flavor in order to really feel the “Holiday” spirit.

そして日本との違いは、このホリデーメニューが一気にスタートするところではないでしょうか？　日本は数点づつ季節のメニューとして出てきて、それも楽しみの一つですよね。　しかし、こちらアメリカは待ったなし。ペッパーミントモカもチェスナッツプラリネラテも全部今から楽しめます。　個人的には毎年ジンジャーブレッドラテを飲むとホリデーな気分になるので外せません。

Talking of Starbucks’ holiday season teas, White Chocolate Peppermint Tea (From Teavana) is very famous but this year, “Joy 2016 Brewed Tea” caught my eye. The Joy brew is a blend of Black, Jasmine green, and Oolong teas. Although it might sound too heavy, it’s actually not as strong as you think and it’s surprisingly refreshing.

また、スタバホリデーシーズンのお茶と言えばTeavanaのWhite Chocolate Peppermint Tea が有名なのですが、今回はJoy 2016 Brewed Teaというお茶が気になりトライしてみました。　ブラック・ジャスミングリーン・ウーロンティーがブレンドされています。　と聞くと、それぞれの味がぶつかりそうですが、ブラックとウーロンの強さをジャスミンのフローラルな感じが和らげている感じがするお味です。ちょっと不思議。

By the way, I was excited to hear that Teavana joined Starbucks in Japan from September this year since they have a huge tea selection. I also enjoy visiting Teavana tea store itself. I recommend dropping in the tea store, if you are interested, where you will find various kinds of tea blends.

Teavanaで思い出したのですが、今年から日本もTeavanaがスタバのティーメニューに加わったそうで、お茶の種類が増えるのは楽しみですね！　私は直営店にも時々いきますが、色々なブレンド茶葉があって面白いです。ご興味のある方はちょっと立ち寄ってみて下さい。
