Last week was New York Fashion Week. Globally, the city, which is known for art, is also famous for fashion. New York is always drawing attention from all over the world for its wonderful museums dedicated to fashion and design.

ニューヨークはちょうど先週、ファッションウィークでした。　世界的に見ても、アートが豊富な街はファッションが盛んですよね。　特にニューヨークは情報の発信地ですから、常に注目されていますし、ファッションやデザインがテーマの美術館も見ごたえがあるものばかりです。

First of all is the MAD (Museum of Art and Design). After relocating a couple times, it finally settled down in the Columbus circle area. Since they feature creative, gifted artists, you will enjoy many modern, interesting pieces there. Additionally, you will be impressed by boundless jewelry designs, especially at the “Tiffany & Co. Foundation Jewelry Gallery”. It delights everyone’s eyes and teach us how amazing jewelry history is. It is the only American museum with a gallery dedicated to contemporary and modern studio and art jewelry.

まず初めはMAD(Museum of Art and Design)。移転を経て、現在はコロンバスサークルに位置します。創造性や職人技に富んだ才能あるアーティストたちにスポットをあてているので、モダンで面白い作品に出会えます。　そして、MADの見どころは何と言っても数多くのジュエリーデザインです。時代に沿って変化するジュエリーのデザインや素材を見ることができます。特にTiffany & Co. Foundation Jewelry Galleryは見ごたえがありますよ。アメリカ国内でもMADのようにモダンアートや、こんなに幅広いジュエリーアートに特化した美術館はめずらしいのだそうです。

Next is The Museum at FIT, that some call “The most fashionable museum in New York.” The museum’s permanent collection encompasses garments and accessories from the 18th century to the present. It is the must-go place for someone who is interested in fashion. On top of that, it’s famous for innovative, attractive seasonal exhibitions that make us want to come back many times. The owner of this museum, the Fashion Institute of Technology, is also a popular school for future artists and designers.

お次はThe Museum at FIT。まさに “The most fashionable museum in New York(ニューヨークで最もファッショナブルな美術館)” と言えます。　18世紀から現代までの服飾、装飾品が貯蔵されており、ファッションに興味がある人であれば一度は行く価値のある美術館です。また、いつも革新的で、人々の注目を集めるような特別展を企画していることでも有名ですから、何度行っても楽しめます。この美術館を経営しているFashion Institute of Technologyもファッション業界を目指す人々には大人気の学校なのです。

Last but not least is the Cooper-Hewitt. As I wrote in my previous post, it focuses on both classic and modern design, and lets us learn the history of design, too. If you are familiar with art and design, it will definitely be enjoyable.  It features a variety of designs including architectures, household goods, and textiles. The building, a former Andrew Carnegie Mansion, is also remarkable. It’s very elegant both inside and outside.  When you enter the museum, you receives a special interactive pen that you can use to explore the digitized collections, and to save any object you liked in the museum. It is a really interesting experience.

最後はCooper-Hewitt。Museum Mileの記事でもご紹介しましたが、古典・現代両方のデザインを専門とし、デザインの歴史も学べるような、アートとファッションには欠かせない美術館です。こちらは建築や日用品のデザインにも注目されています。そして、建物そのものもアメリカの実業家Andrew Carnegieの元邸宅ということでで、本当に立派。　またこの美術館では、入館時にテクノロジーが詰まったユニークなペンが渡されます。そのペン1本でデジタル化されたコレクションを楽しんだり、気に入った作品を記録したりすることができるのです。面白いですよね。
