フワフワと軽いスポンジ、キュンッとなる甘さのアイシング、そしてなんとも可愛いらしいルックス♡ カップケーキはアメリカの代表的なお菓子として知られていますが、個人的にはアメリカの中でも特にNYに似合うスイーツだと思っています。パーティーで派手に並べられているかと思えば、買ったそのまま公園のベンチで食べている人も、会社を抜け出しておやつに食べているビジネスマンもいる。NYの生活でカップケーキを見かけるシーンは実に多く、そのどれもが絵になるのです。

Fluffy light sponge, decadent frosting and incredibly cute appearance. Cupcakes are known to be one of the very typical American sweets but I believe that it especially matches New York City.  Everywhere from gorgeous party venues to neighborhood parks, there are people eating cupcakes in this city. I even know a business man who would routinely sneak out his office to get a cupcake at 3pm. NY is the city where everyone can enjoy cupcakes, anywhere and anytime because it belongs to this city.

日本への帰国が決まってからというもの生活が一転し、HPの更新もできていなかったのですが、先日NYからのお土産で頂いたカップケーキを食べた瞬間に、『あっ、書かなきゃ！』と直感的に思いつきました。 カップケーキパワーですね。今回はKuminyroom 区切りの記事として、私が愛したNYならではのカップケーキについて書きます。

I have been busy since returning to Tokyo and haven’t uploaded any articles until today. However, when my love brought back cupcakes from NY, I felt so excited and it reminded me of all the goodness of cupcakes. Then, I thought “I have to write about this!” That’s the positive power of cupcakes!  　Today I write all about cupcakes in NY as a last article of kuminyroom’s first chapter.

まずは、NYと言えばマグノリアベーカリー。今でこそ日本を初め世界各地に店舗がありますが、NY発祥。私がNYで一番最初に訪れたカップケーキ屋さんもここ。そんなマグノリアの一番の特徴はなんといっても可愛すぎるルックスです。デザインもパステルカラーのフロスティングも多くの人を惹きつけます。　実はこのアイシングに魅了されて、私はマグノリアのアイシングクラスにまで通ったとがあります。この、見た目シンプルなマグノリア巻きとも言うべくアイシングが意外と難しく、最後まで苦戦したものです。　余談ですがティファニーはティファニー色のカップケーキをマグノリアにBOXで注文するんですって。絶対に可愛いですよね。

First of all is the famous Magnolia Bakery. We can find this bakery many places in the world nowadays but they started the business in NY. My first NY cupcake was from here, too. The most attractive point of the Magnolia cupcake is its appearance. Each of cupcakes has a well-designed pastel color frosting. I actually have taken their class to learn how to make those frosting and I still remember how difficult to make the signature “magnolia scroll”. It looks simple but takes time to get the hang of it… As a side note, I heard that many companies order cupcakes from Magnolia and Tiffany is ordering cupcakes with Tiffany blue frosting! Must be beautiful.

続いてはButtercup Bake Shop。オーナーは上記マグノリアのオープニングにも関わったのだとか。常に種類が豊富で、いつもどれにしようか迷ってしまいます。このお店のスポンジは様々な味があって面白く、他と比べるとマフィンに近いようなしっかりとした触感のものが多いです。マンハッタンに数店舗ありますが、Madison Avenueにあるカウンターのみのお店がサクッと入りやすく、可愛いので私は好き。NYにだけあるお店です。

Next one is Buttercup Bake Shop. I always take a loooong time to choose my cupcakes from this shop because of their many selection of flavors. Most of their sponges are bit thicker and moist like a muffin with interesting flavors. Among their shops in Manhattan, the one on Madison Avenue is the cutest and easiest and to drop by. You can find their shops only in NY.

最後にCupcake Market。私にとっては前回ご紹介したTwo Little Red Hensと同じぐらい大好きなお店です！　そもそもカップケーキのスタイルが両者違うので、比べるのが難しいところ。ぜひ両方食べてみて下さい！

The last but not the least is Cupcake Market. I LOVE LOVE LOVE cupcakes from here as much I do Two Little Red Hens (which I have introduced already).  Actually it’s very difficult to compare those two shops since each of them has a very different style. So, please try them both!

Cupcake Marketのカップケーキはアイシングもスポンジもすごく軽いのにちょうど良い甘さでしっかり味がします。他の典型的なカップケーキとはちょっと違いますよ。入った瞬間から甘い香りに包まれるチャーミングな店内も素敵。最近はCupcake Marketを検索するとアイシングクッキーがメインに出てくると思います。インパクト大なので、TVなどで取り上げられることが多いのです。でもね、このお店の名前、Cupcake Marketです！カップケーキを食べて下さい！チェーン店でない、こちらはNYに一軒だけのお店です。

Anyhow, Cupcake Market’s ones are moist, fluffy and light but flavorful!! Both texture and taste are very different from typical cupcakes. Truly delicious. Banana bread with strawberry frosting is my favorite. And of course, the store itself is so lovely and filled with the smell of vanilla whenever you visit.  If you google this shop, you will see tons of their icing cookies because it has been getting attention and featured by media. However, please try their cupcakes! You will understand why this shop is named “Cupcake market”. They only have one location – East village.

他にもご紹介したいお店はいっぱいあるのですが、NYならではで私のお気に入りと言えばこれら３つのお店と、前回紹介した２店かなと思います。　現在は日本でも美味しいカップケーキを探しながら自分でも手作りの味を模索中。

このHPについても今後は日本から、少し視点を変えて何かを発信してゆけたらと考えております。ゆっくりの更新になるかとは思いますが、今後とも宜しくお願いいたします。

I want to introduce more shops but the above 3 shops and 2 shops I have previously written about are special for me and all of them are based in NY. That’s the point! I am currently looking for good cupcakes shops in Japan but miss the NY ones so much! I am also figuring out how to make decadent homemade cupcakes.
